My year of "sabbatical" is quickly coming to an end, so I'm packing up my San Francisco apartment and getting ready to head back to Toronto. The upsides of moving back to Toronto are (a) I'll have more time to focus on research, and (b) I need to take a few more classes. I'm obviously excited about (a). Do people from San Francisco really like to smell their own farts?
I live in a unit on the third floor and the neighbor underneath me smokes weed and spray afterwards. I have complained to her & my landlord about the constant smells. Nothing has been done. I do believe strongly that people do whatever they want to do with their lives & smoking weed as well as cigarettes is their business but I want to know if people who smoke weed should open their window & blow the smell out!. It comes right through my heater and my place smells!. After I complained of the smells she went to a clinic & got herself legalized so I cannot do anything. Now I am sure that there are laws &regulations& in my lease there is a line regarding odors in the building. Again I do not care what she does but I do not want to smell weed & spray combined. Does anyone have any ideas?. I live in San francisco - Would appreciate any feedbacks. Thank you.

Odors ( marijuana & spray) coming up to my place.?
I was planning this for late May or June for 2.5 weeks starting from San Francisco down to LA. I would like this camper to be clean and relatively new (not musty/moldy smell). I am still not sure if I would be travelling here or in Europe, so I will ask another one for Europe :) I would like to know what are the prices and also one cheap on gas. An internet site or phone number would be great. Thanks.

You can smell it wafting from boiling lobster pans on the Redondo Beach Pier or in the smoke from cedar wood burning in a Gold Country cabin fireplace, from the cascades of flowers tumbling down a Santa Barbara garden wall or a dim sum restaurant in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

is this cool? please ANSWER THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Before you read the question, I live on a saltwater lagoon that covers about 8 blocks. It is in alameda ca and it runs in from te San Francisco Bay. There are gateson the pipes and they have been there for 15 years so no fish over 12inch can get in. There are striper, I don't know how many, but there are not a lot, but they are big. most from 10-30lbs. I have caught severel this year from 7lbs to 23lbs. I normally use a basic carolina rig with live smelt, but that has not been working and I usually see them jump.

Does anyone have any tactics for catching stripers in the winter. I have not seen any striper jump in my lagoon for nearly two months and have not had a hit since late november, I was thinking of changing tactics, any ideas? The striper are there and they can get out, there are not a lot of stripers, but most are good sized from 10-30lbs. The water temp in 48 degrees. I have a 8 foot skiff, but prefer to bait fish off the dock. Any ideas? I will add aditional info if needed. This can be an 10pts, if I get a singal hit using your idea, i will award you best answer. BTW, this is in my yard, I can fish while on the computer so I can try each suggestioin as it is asked. Please respond ASAP.I'd rather fish bait and the only chum I have is frozen anchovy. I can obtain live smelt 6 inches and possibly bullheads and other small fish. The lagoon is long and narrow, the spot i have seen the most fish is with in casting range of my dock.Any rig ideas, if you want a pic or the lagoon or have any tips you don't want to post here, send me an email at minnowmagnet@gmail.comI'll try to get some bullhead,m they have been hard to get latly.I fish lures all the time with no reasultsin the lagoon, outside the lagoon I nail strippers on lures, but nnot te lagoon. I use mainly spooks and repels.

To bring the tofu, or not bring the tofu?

It's a question that Genevieve Hartman has been rolling over in her mind for some time now. The 28-year-old vegetarian will be spending Thanksgiving at her boyfriend's professor's house in New York City. Thanksgiving used to be one of Hartman's favorite holidays, when she celebrated it with her vegetarian family in San Francisco. But ever since she moved to New York five years ago and began spending the holiday with relatives or friends, it's been a source of anxiety. Take the tofu dilemma: on the one hand, she doesn't want to get stranded at a turkey-heavy table without anything to eat, which might make her hosts feel bad. But she also doesn't want to bring attention to herself as needing "special foods," increasing the likelihood that she'll have to field questions about why she's skipping the turkey. "It's going to be awkward no matter whether I bring it or I don't," says Hartman. "Thanksgiving has a really set menu, and people are very sensitive to any changes."

The number of vegetarians in the United States has doubled over the past 10 years, according to polls by the Vegetarian Resource Group, and now stands somewhere around 4.7 million. Freezer aisles at grocery stores stock a growing selection of faux meat products, from tofu buffalo wings to soy-based kielbasa. Veggie burgers have become a common fixture at barbecues. But many vegetarians, particularly those who are the only one in a large family, say Thanksgiving has become that one day of the year where they're reminded that they are indeed in the minority, a mere 2 percent of a meat-eating society. It's the one holiday, Turkey Day, that's so strongly associated with meat that not participating seems almost unpatriotic.

The problem isn't necessarily a lack of food. Between the mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, candied yams and bounty of desserts, you can usually find a way to stuff yourself silly. Instead, the vegetarian frustration is with the flurry of questions that follow saying "no thank you" to the turkey. "There was definitely some heckling," says Carly McLean, 24, of her first vegetarian Thanksgiving at her parents' house in central Illinois. She remembers her family looking at her as if she had grown a horn or a third eye during that meal. "There was a lot of, 'you're still in college, you're going through a phase, you're just rebellious.' My aunt asked, 'how can you be a vegetarian from the Midwest, isn't that an oxymoron?'" The assumption clearly was, this is Thanksgiving, therefore you eat turkey. "I think we might have spent less time talking about what we were thankful for, than 'What is Lorraine going to eat?'" says 25-year-old Lorraine Woodcheke from San Francisco. She's skipping out on Thanksgiving altogether this year, leaving this weekend for Australia. On Thanksgiving Day, she'll be climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge. "I never considered skipping any holiday with my family before," she says. "In a way, I'm sad to miss it, but at the same time, its just nice that I'm going to do my own thing and nobody has to change what they're doing."

Vegetarians aren't the only ones anxious over next Thursday's festivities. Many of their hosts find accommodating vegetarian stressful because they're used to working with such a set Thanksgiving menu. "My step-mother didn't know a vegetarian and definitely didn't like it," says Mollie Marti, 42, who married into an Iowa farm family. "It was more of the unknown that was uncomfortable for her than it was her judging. There was a nervousness on both sides." The key to a successful Thanksgiving, Marti says, has been communication about what she eats and what she doesn't. McLean has had a similar experience. While that first Thanksgiving was "pretty rough," her dad has been incredibly accommodating. Last year, the two went grocery shopping for the dinner together and he pointed out all the vegetarian products he was buying. He made the stuffing without giblets and left the bacon off of their seven-layer salad. "The thing that was really cool was some of those recipes are family tradition, going back three or four generations," says McLean. "So for him to switch that up, and make changes, was really big."

Longstanding dining traditions like the Thanksgiving turkey may be particularly difficult to depart from because their associated with such distinct smells. "Memories based on sight and sound are relatively absent of strong emotional evocation," says Thomas F. Shipley, a psychology professor at Temple University. "But because of the way the brain is wired, smells directly evoke emotions. So the thought is that with something like Thanksgiving, where you may have been eating the same foods and smelling the same smells since you were a child, it will evoke very strong emotional memories from earlier in life." That strong association between ThanksgivingIts an article Chichi, not my life story, don't like it? Dont bother wasting my time!

NEW CLAIM & HEALTH HISTORY

I was born August 12th, 1943 in North Vancouver and have lived in
Vancouver
and Burnaby continually. When I was born the doctor held me up and
said
(according to my deceased mother)" .near rickets." (Vitamin D
deficiency is
one aspect of Lead in my body.)

I was conceived in and spent my first two years in the 2900 block of
Marine
Drive in West Vancouver in a basement suite. We then moved to 4503
West 2nd
Ave and 14 years later to 2594 Wallace Crescent at 10th (10th Ave and
Wallace Crescent)

All the above locations are at the bottom of Vancouver's gravity-fed
water
system. As well, the Marine Drive and the Wallace Crescent locations
were
both on heavily traveled streets and I was subjected to an inordinate
amount
of leaded gasoline fumes.

As a youngster, I had Speech problems (lisp), was a Thumb sucker until
age
12, and had anemia. As well. I wet the bed until I was 12 or so.

All four of these are results of Lead in my body. (CDC)

My older sister, (Mary) Denise Long, Bellevue, Washington, USA,
425-454-8801, was born June 10th, 1938, had Rheumatic Fever at age 14,
renal
disease (her kidneys were being destroyed by her own body,) and has
thyroid
problems as long as she can remember.

Her life was saved by massive doses of Cortisone, which was unusual to
do in
those days.

She was conceived in Penticton, BC, and born in San Francisco,
California.

She lived in the first three homes which I detail elsewhere.

I believe that she also ingested Lead through Vancouver's soft water,
and
possibly in the fetus. She moved away from Vancouver in 1959-1960. Her
Thyroid problems, Rheumatic Fever and Kidney problems are also
ailments
caused by Lead ingestion.

Vancouver's soft water may contain more lead (CDC). My youth was
spent near
sea level & lead levels in tap water would be higher because of
gravity
(CDC).

I believe that Lead ingested and inhaled throughout my youth got
access to
my central nervous system and was stored in my body. As well, as an
infant
I chewed the lead paint poles in my crib.

As a toddler, I accidentally tumbled down the basement stairs.

A CT scan taken years later showed that one major ventricle in my
brain is
larger than the other corresponding ventricle and they couldn't tell
why.

I was given another CT scan six months later to see if there was a
change.
They hadn't changed and I was told that I may have been born that way.

But I think my soft toddler skull was damaged in my tumble down the
basement
stairs, and that's why the ventricles are different.

It also broke the blood/brain barrier, and left me susceptible to
neurological toxins.

As well, I played box lacrosse for seven years & had several
concussions.
One time a hard rubber lacrosse ball thrown at high speed hit me
square
between the eyes & knocked me right out.

My mother would also have had high Lead which was passed through to
the
fetus, which was me.

In my childhood, I delivered The Vancouver Sun and The Vancouver
Province
Newspaper for many years and even sold The Vancouver Sun at the 1954
British
Empire and Commonwealth Games. I primarily sold them at UBC's Empire
Pool
and sold so many that my arms and legs would get black with the ink
from the
papers. As well, I was subjected to the chlorine in the air around a
major
swimming pool.

I can still remember the chlorine smell of the cafeteria at the end of
the
pool where I would go and take a break.

In my teenage years, I was in the Seaforth Highlander Cadets and
Militia and
handled many rounds of ammunition as a youth at Blair Range and was
spent 6
weeks in the 'Young Soldier Training Plan' at Jericho and Royal Roads
on
Vancouver Island. I also had part time jobs working at two different
Chevron
gas stations working with and breathing in fumes from leaded gasoline.

I remember having a recurring nightmare in my adolescence about the
basement
at 4503 West 2nd Ave. My father was proud of his having painted the
cement
basement floor with several coats of green paint which was undoubtedly
lead
based. My dream was that I was alone in the basement and there was an
invisible terror striking me and I couldn't get to the basement stairs
to
escape. Then a voice came with no body attached saying ominously:
"I've been
here all the time". (Some psychologists have postulated that dreams
can
predict personal disasters.) There is literature available on
that
subject.

I drove a Black Top Taxi for approximately seven years and went to
university on and off. I was in heavy traffic and I also was a smoker
and
drove for many, many hours and mi
